Open Question: As you drive your car along a country road at night?
As you steer your car along a country road at night, a deer jumps out of the woods and stands in the middle of the road ahead of you. This occurs just as you are passing from a 55-mi/h zone to a 50-mi/h zone. At the 50-mi/h speed-limit sign, you slam on the car's brakes, causing them to lock up, and skid to a cease inches from the startled deer. As you breathe a sigh of relief, you hear the sound of a police siren. The policeman proceeds to write you a ticket for driving 56 mi/h in 50-mi/h zone. Because of your preparation in physics, you are able to use the 33.5-m-long skid marks that your car left behind as evidence that you were not speeding. Based on your evidence, at what speed were you actually driving? (The coefficient of friction between between automobile tires and dry concrete is 0.80.)

Open Question: Someone Help !!!!!!!?
I know it's not a question I just want people to know about shelters. Yes, I Gas Dogs and Cats for a Living. I'm an Animal Control officer in a very tiny town in central North Carolina. I'm in my mid thirties, and have been working for the town in different positions since high school. There is not much work here, and working for the county provides good pay and benefits for a person like me without a higher education. I'm the person you every write about how horrible I am. I'm the one that gasses the dogs and cats and makes them suffer. I'm the one that pulls their dead corpses out smelling of Carbon Monoxide and throws them into green plastic bags. But I'm also the one that hates my job and hates what I have to do. First off, every you people out there that judge me, don't. God is judging me, and I know I'm going to Hell. Yes, I'm going to hell. I wont lie, it's despicable, icy, cruel and I feel like a serial killer. I'm not every to blame, if the law would mandate spay and neuter, lots of these dogs and cats wouldn't be here for me to gas. I'm the devil, I know it, but I want you people to look that there is another side to me the devil Gas Chamber man. The shelter usually gasses on Friday morning. Friday's are the day that most people look forward to, this is the day that I hate, and wish that time will stand still on Thursday night. Thursday night, tardy, after nobody's around, my pal and I go through a quick food line, and buy 50 dollars worth of cheeseburgers and fries, and chicken. I'm not allowed to feed the dogs on Thursday, for I'm told that they will make a mess in the gas chamber, and why waste the food. So, Thursday night, with the lights still closed, I go into the saddest room that anyone can every imagine, and let every the doomed dogs out out their cages. I have never been bit, and in every my years doing this, the dogs have never fought over the food. My buddy and I, open each wrapper of cheeseburger and chicken sandwich, and feed them to the skinny, starving dogs. They swallow the food so quick, that I don't believe they even taste it. There tails are wagging, and some don't even go for the food, they roll on their backs wanting a scratch on their bellys. They start running, jumping and kissing me and my buddy. They go back to their food, and arrive back to us. every their eyes are on us with such trust and wish, and their tails wag so quick, that I have arrive out with black and blues on my thighs.. They devour the food, then it's time for them to devour some adore and peace. My buddy and I sit down on the dirty, pee stained concrete floor, and we let the dogs jump on us. They lick us, they put their butts in the air to play, and they play with each other. Some lick each other, but most are glued on me and my buddy. I look into the eyes of each dog. I give each dog a name. They will not die without a name. I give each dog 5 minutes of unconditional adore and touch. I talk to them, and tell them that I'm so sorry that tomorrow they will die a gruesome, long, torturous death at the hands of me in the gas chamber. Some tilt their heads to try to understand. I tell them, that they will be in a better place, and I beg them not to hate me. I tell them that I know I'm going to hell, but they will every be playing with every the dogs and cats in heaven. After about 30 minutes, I take each dog individually, into their feces filled concrete jail cell, and pet them and scratch them below their chins. Some give me their paw, and I just want to die. I just want to die. I close the jail cell on each dog, and ask them to forgive me. As my buddy and I are walking out, we watch as every dog is smiling at us and them don't even move their heads. They will snooze, with a full belly, and a untrue sense of security. As we walk out of the doomed dog room, my buddy and I go to the cat room. We take our box, and put the very friendly kittens and pregnant cats in our box. The shelter doesn't keep tabs on the cats, like they do the dogs. As I hand pick which cats are going to make it out, I feel like I'm playing God, deciding whose going to live and die. We take the cats into my truck, and put them on blankets in the back. Usually, as soon as we start to steer away, there are purring cats sitting on our necks or rubbing against us. My buddy and I take our one way two hour trip to a county that is very wealthy and they use injection to kill animals. We go to exclusive neighborhoods, and let one or two cats out at a time. They don't want to run, they want to stay with us. We shoo them away, which makes me feel unhappy. I tell them that these wealthy people will adopt them, and if worse comes to worse and they do receive put down, they will be put down with a painless needle being cradled by a loving veterinarian. After the last cat is free, we steer back to our town. It's about 5 in the morning now, about two hours until I have to gas my bes

Open Question: How much to replace a brick foundation/basement with a poured concrete one...read more?
I have a brick foundation and basement and I want to jack up the home and replace with a poured concrete one...and I am looking for approximate cost. I am in the Springfield IL area, the basement is roughly 680 sq ft. The home is an older ranch style, the basement gets little to no water-its just old and crumbly and I want to rebuild. If there are any contractors in the area who have experience with this who could give me a roundabout idea of what this would cost me, I would appreciate it. I would be interested in a more detailed estimate down the road if you are close by and have references for this type of work.

Open Question: Litter Training Outdoor rabbits?
I have two neutered rabbits ( one male and one female ) living on my big upstairs concrete deck / courtyard that has been sectioned off. How can I receive them to use the litter area inside the hutch rather than their current places.

Open Question: I'm writing a novel, what do you think of this short draft?
The road outside was deserted. Alice pressed her face up to the glass and gazed down at abandoned crisp packets that blew forlornly in the wind. From downstairs she could hear the muffled hum of the television, followed by some of her fathers choicest swear words, reserved only for referees. She visualised him, slouched in front the screen, a blue glow cast over his meaty face. Stains on his shirt, drink tipping in hand. A bubble of disgust welled up inside her. "One day I'll receive out of here" she whispers vehememtly, watching her breath fog up the window. But when would that be? Alice had spent her whole life in Dublin and had never known any other world. She had grown up playing on dusty streets and glass covered playgrounds, watching as the few green spaces she had once cherished made way to even more roads, concrete and soon to be dilapidated buildings. Her friends had grown up into people she hardly knew, their lives dictated by what time the local pub opened and closed. School, although enjoyable had proved useless and college had only deepened her dislike of her fellow human beings. Now at age twenty, there was simply nothing left for her here anymore. Alice pulled her self away from the icy window, passing by the sketch of The Eiffel Tower beside her mirror. "Oh my beloved Paris" she thought as she climbed into bed "One day I'll receive to visit you".

Open Question: Does anyone know how the CBO actually rates the spending in bills?
I bet you did not know that they are not allowed to take anything into account but the projections in the bills. So if you write a bill that says you are going to spend 1 Trillion Dollars but plan on saving 1 Trillion in unspecified cuts they would rate that bill as budget neutral, even though there is no concrete plan for savings. To put it another way if you wrote a bill projecting tax revenues would double in 5 years, no matter how unlikely that is they would have to rate on that. I am just saying how many here take the CBO's numbers at face value, and how many look deeper into the spending bills. Here is a link: http://reason.com/blog/2009/10/30/cbo-health-care-score-assumes

Open Question: Need advice on how to approach wife about pictures of her ex?
My wife keeps several photo albums that have lots of pictures of her ex in them. Many of them where they are kissing, holding each other etc.. She was never married to this guy and never had kids or anything with him, but they did live together for several years. I know that everyone has a past and I should probably just receive over the fact that she keeps these. It bothers me though, particularly since we don't have a single album with pictures of us in it (including wedding photos which are still in an envelope somewhere). Anyway, although I recognize that this smacks of insecurity I just can't stand having them around anymore. I have no intention of telling her to receive rid of them or else. I just want to tell her they bother me and look what she does. I am looking for an approach to talk to her about this subject without sounding controlling or confrontational. I know myself well enough to know that if I don't go into this with some sort of plan I will probably end up in a confrontation of some sort. Any concrete advice anyone could provide would be appreciated.

Open Question: Swimming pool dome information?
Has anyone had experience with an inflated plastic dome which is put up over a home swimming pool in the winter so that the pool can be used year round? I am particularly interested in the Ameri-Dome brand, but would like to look information on any brand. I would like information on: 1: The initial set up process, including, for example, measuring the area and drilling holes for the attachment hardware in the concrete. How did you find someone who was able to do this work? Did the drilling cause the concrete to crack? How old was the concrete? 2. The process of removing the dome each spring and reinstalling it in the fall. How many people did it take? Did they have to be big and strong? 3. What problems, if any, have you had with the dome and how did you solve them? 4. What state do you live in, in what months could you use the dome, did you need an air (not a water) heater and was the air temperature inside comfortable? Partial answers gladly accepted. Thank you.

Open Question: I don't get why airplane crashes into the sea would be fatal?
I mean I can understand if an airplane crashes high speed into something sold like a concrete or a building, it'll kill on the people on board with such impact, but I heard in the news every the time that an airplane crashes high speed into a sea and there were no survivors. I mean water is a liquid right? If an airplane crashes into it then it would travel very deep into the sea level, I mean there's should be no hole from that damage and the passengers inside would be safe, just sink in to the bottom level of the sea with enough oxygen to survive for days in the plane and the air traffic control should know right away and send in some submarine to rescue people???

Would a fiberglass blade wrapped with kevlar work better than a carbon fiber and fiberglass weave? What about a carbon-glass blade? Sorry for the numerous questions, I just don't know the differences between these blades. Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks alot

Open Question: How do you implement Artificial Intuition (AN) in a computer program?
Artificial Intuition (AN) is a branch of Artificial Intelligence (AI). While AI handles more concrete logical problems (e.g. discovering number patterns, formulating equations, etc.), AN deals with more abstract intuitive problems (e.g. understanding natural languages, walking, etc.). I know that it's very easy to implement AN, but it requires a lot of memory. However, I don't know exactly how to do so. It would be great if you could provide me with a link to a flowchart, a pseudo-code, a C++, C# or Java source code, or an intuitive explanation on how to do so.
